Privacy notice
What happens to the details you send Switch Smart through this website, by phone, on WhatsApp or by email, and what the website itself does and does not collect.
Who we are
Switch Smart Electrical Ltd is the controller of the personal information described in this notice. We are a company registered in England and Wales, company number 14736582. Our registered office is shown at the foot of every page of this website.
For anything about your information, email service@
The enquiry form
When you send the enquiry form, we receive:
- your name and email address;
- your phone number, if you give it;
- the postcode of the job and the type of work you choose;
- your message;
- if you came from the wiring check or the postcode checker, a note of which one, and any answers it added to your message.
We use it to reply to you, to arrange a visit if one is needed, to prepare a quote and, if you go ahead, to do the work and issue the certificates. We do not use it for marketing, and we do not sell it or pass it to anyone else for their own use.
Our lawful basis is that you have asked us to take steps before entering into a contract with you, such as giving you a quote, and then the contract itself if you go ahead.
Phone, WhatsApp and email
If you call, message or email us, we receive your number or address and whatever you send, including photos. We use it in the same way as a form enquiry. Photos of your home are only used to understand and price the job.
WhatsApp is run by Meta and handles your messages under its own privacy policy. The same applies to Instagram if you contact us there.
If we do work for you
Electrical certificates and condition reports record the address of the property and the name of the person the work was done for. When work is notifiable under Part P of the Building Regulations, those details are included in the notification to building control, which is made for you through the registration scheme to your local council.
We keep invoices and job records because company and tax law require it. That is a legal obligation. We also keep a record of the work so we can answer questions about it later, which is our legitimate interest.
Our web host
This website is hosted by Netlify, Inc., which also receives enquiry form submissions on our behalf and holds them in our account. Netlify checks submissions for spam automatically. Netlify is based in the United States, so a form submission may be stored or processed outside the UK, under data protection terms that include safeguards for international transfers.
Like any web host, Netlify records technical details when a page is requested, such as the IP address and the type of browser, to deliver the site and protect it from abuse.
Postcode checker and wiring check
The postcode checker looks your postcode up with postcodes.io, an open-source postcode lookup service built on open data from the Office for National Statistics and Ordnance Survey. The lookup is made directly from your browser: postcodes.io receives the postcode you type and, as with any web request, your IP address. Switch Smart does not receive the postcode unless you then send it to us in the enquiry form.
The wiring check works entirely in your browser. Nothing is sent anywhere while you answer it.
When either tool passes your answers to the enquiry form, they travel in the address of the contact page or in your browser’s session storage. Nothing reaches Switch Smart until you press Send.
Cookies and storage
This website does not set cookies. There are no analytics, tracking or advertising tools on it, and its fonts and scripts are served from this site, not from other companies’ servers. The only outside service it contacts is postcodes.io, and only when you use the postcode checker.
The site uses your browser’s session storage for one thing: carrying answers from the wiring check or the postcode checker to the enquiry form. It stays on your device, is not sent to us, and is cleared when you send the form or close the tab.
Links to other websites, such as WhatsApp, Instagram or Companies House, take you to sites with their own privacy policies.
How long we keep it
- Enquiries that do not lead to work are deleted within 12 months of the last contact.
- Customer records, meaning your contact details, the quote, invoices and the certificates for the job, are kept for six years after the job, as company and tax records require. Copies of electrical certificates may be kept for longer, so that questions about the installation can still be answered.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law, the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018, you can ask us:
- for a copy of the information we hold about you;
- to correct it if it is wrong;
- to delete it, where we do not need to keep it;
- to restrict how we use it, or to stop using it;
- to pass it to you or to someone else in a usable format, where that applies.
To do any of these, email service@
